Fire Safety Week 🚒

Fire Safety Week is one of our favorite weeks and we get a refresher on some important Safety tips! I hope you were able to take some time as a family this week to go over your home fire Safety plan! We talked about safe meeting places in case you have to evacuate your home. We learned about staying low because smoke rises and practiced crawling out of the house. We learned about stop, drop, and Roll. We learned in an emergency to call 911. We learned never to go back inside of a burning building and never hide from firefighters if you can't get out... it is important to make sure they can find you! We loved having the firefighters come to our school!! We also did some fun art table activities this week!  Our VIP shared his poster, adventures with Norman, poem from his parents, and some of his favorite things.

Reminder- T-shirt order forms are due Monday if you are wanting to order. Trick-or-Treating permission slips are due ASAP so I can figure out if we have enough drivers. For 22 years I've been teaching (and learning) early childhood education. I once thought product art (the cute cookie cutter art that the teacher did 90% of the work, but the parents loved it) was what kids needed to be doing. I once thought every child's art should look the same. I once thought flashcards and work sheets were important and necessary for children to learn how to write and learn their letters.  My first job was an assistant teacher in a church preschool. One time the lead teacher gave me a week to be in charge. I planned cereal rainbows as our activity. I thought a great sorting activity, a great matching activity, a great color recognition activity... and it was for my 5 year olds. They did awesome at it and every arch had the right color... my 3 and 4 year olds struggled. You know what happened the teachers did all of the work. Spring 🌷

We learned about Spring this week! We read books about spring, talked about the 4 seasons, and what kind of weather we usually have in each one. We painted flowers with forks, did drip water color art, painted flowers for the bulletin board, did a black glue border painting, and "planted" flowers in kinetic sand. Our VIP shared her poster, some of her favorite things, and her adventures with Norman. We celebrated a Birthday and welcomed a new friend!

New Year - New Friends

I am so excited about this school year! We have a great group of little friends!! I spent the summer taking every play class I could find! One of the only good things about Covid is conferences were online instead of in person, and I was able to listen to some of my heroes in the field of learning through play! Our day is filled with even more free play this year... circle time is now more of a morning meeting time... and our art will continue to be 95% process art! I will continue to advocate for learning through play and I am thrilled with the families I have this year! I think they all "get it" and support the idea that children really do learn best through play!  As always, thank you for believing in me and supporting me! My parents are my favorite advertisers and I appreciate you all for once again filling up our spots!! Now... enjoy our pictures from the first week of school.  We are missing a few puzzle pieces but this will be full by then end of next week ❤
